The white Minbar of Masjid Al Haram is back for Friday Sermon. According to reports,  21 October 2016 - Imam Al Sudais giving Friday Sermon in the white Minbar. A minbar (Arabic: منبر‎, also spelt mimbar or mimber) is a pulpit in the mosque where the imam (leader of prayer) stands to deliver sermons (khutbah خطبة ) where the speaker sits and lectures the congregation. The word is a derivative of the Arabic root m-b-r 'to raise, elevate'; the Arabic plural is manābir (Arabic: منابر‎). SL-RASCH : Makkah / KSA Minbar is a mobile pulpit, which is used for the rendition of the weekly Friday sermon in the Holy Mosque of Makkah. The Minbar, measures more than five meters in height, is mechanized so that it can be easily removed from the Ka’aba courtyard and made from marble. The body, made of white marble and partially reinforced by glass-fiber laminate, is carried on a stainless steel frame by a battery-driven steerable chassis.
SL-RASCH : Until 1978 a traditional Minbar built from white marble, originating from the Ottoman period, was placed near the eastern corner of the Kaaba. As it was too big an obstacle for the increasing number of pilgrims, it had to be removed like other constructions from the courtyard of the Masjid al-Haram. Subsequently a smaller, wooden Minbar was used as a mobile pulpit for the rendition of the weekly Friday sermon. In 2001 SL Rasch was assigned a contract for the design and manufacturing of a new Minbar. The challenge was to build it from marble, more than five meters high, but nevertheless mobile and to complete this complex structure in less than one year to be used in Ramadan 1423. The body, made of white marble and partially reinforced by glass-fiber laminate, is carried on a stainless steel frame by a battery-driven steerable chassis. The side panels and railings, richly decorated with floral ornaments and turquoise stones in gilded bezels, were carved by traditional masters in Rajasthan, India, on the basis of drawings provided by SL Rasch. To save weight, some structural elements of the cladding such as the dome and its base profile are made of Corian®. The space below the landing houses an airconditioning system which provides cold air for the imam at his elevated seating. An adjustable support holds microphones for the transmission of the sermon, and a screen, allowing the reading of a stored text.
Dimensions: 3,2 x 1,8 m, height 5,9 m
Weight: 5,5 t
Materials: Stainless steel frame; marble cladding with inlaid turquoise stones;
glass-fiber reinforced epoxylaminate for inner dome;
Corian® for the dome base and exterior.
Completion: 2002
BONNER DESIGN : The ornamental design for the Masjid al Haram minbar was produced by Jay Bonner in the same pan-Islamic style that he originally developed for the Sliding Domes at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. This white marble for this minbar is from Macedonia, and was hand carved by the finest Muslim stone workers in Ajmer, India. The floral panels are of two types: high relief, and pierced. The high relief panels include inlaid Persian turquoise stones set in gold plated bezels. The floral elements in the pierced panels are designed so that they have optimum contact with one another; thus providing greater structural integrity to each pierced panel.
The Masjid al Haram minbar is mechanized and mobile on wheels with a remote control so that it can be easily removed from the Haram courtyard; thereby avoiding potential accidents among the throng of circumambulating pilgrims. Completed in 2002.

SARAY DESIGN : For this revered mosque in Mecca Sharif, Saray Design was given the honour of ornamenting a movable minbar in pure white marble set with turquoise leaves and Qur’anic calligraphy, which combined 21st century German technology, developed by the gifted engineers of Sl-Rasch based in Stuttgart, with 17th century Mughal craftsmanship done by Saray master inlay artisans.
The result was the creation of a magnificent, movable and air-conditioned minbar – the first of its kind.
