شاید آپ کو یہ جان کر حیرت ہو لیکن یہ حقیقت ہے کہ دنیا بھر میں ایک کروڑ 40 لاکھ افراد کو پینے کا صاف پانی میسر نہیں ہے‘ ایسی صورت میں وہ جو پانی وہ پیتے ہیں وہ زہر آلود ہوتا ہے۔عجیب بات تو یہ ہے کہ برطانیہ جیسے ترقی یافتہ ملک میں بھی آب زم زم کے نام پرزہر آلود پانی فروخت ہورہا ہے۔اس زہر آلود پانی میں سنکھیا ہوتا ہے۔ دراصل سنکھیا ایک ایسا کیمیائی مادہ ہے جو چٹانوں اور مٹی میں پایا جاتا ہے۔ اگر یہ کیمیائی مادہ پانی میں شامل ہو جائے تو انسانی صحت کیلئے خطرناک ثابت ہو سکتا ہے۔ ماہرین کے مطابق یہ صورتحال ایسے مقامات پر زیادہ خراب ہو جاتی ہے جہاں لوگوں کے پاس زمین سے پانی نکال کر پینے کے علاوہ کوئی دوسرچارہ کار میسر نہیںہے۔

سائنسدانوں نے نکالا مسئلہ کا حل:
اسی دشورای کے پیش نظر اب سائنسدانوں نے ایک ایسا آلہ بنایا ہے جس سے پانی میں موجود سنکھیا کی مقدار کو ناپا جا سکتا ہے۔یوروپ سے تعلق رکھنے والے ایک سائنسدان روڈ ریگز لاڈو کی جانب سے تیارکردہ اس آلے کا تجربہ چین میں کیا گیا۔اس ضمن میں چین میں موجود تمام کنوو ¿ں کے پانی پر تجربہ کرنے کا ارادہ کیا گیا ہے۔ آلہ ایجاد کرنے والے سائنسدان روڈ ریگز لاڈو کہتے ہیں کہ چین اتنا بڑا ملک ہے کہ روایتی طریقوں سے اس کام کو مکمل ہوتے کئی دہائیاں لگ سکتی ہیں لیکن ان کے آلے کے استعمال کے بعد اس عمل میں تیزی لائی جا سکتی ہے۔
 بچایا جا سکتاہے وقت اور پیسہ بھی:
روڈ ریگز لاڈو کے الفاظ، ’ہمارے بنائے ہوئے ماڈل سے ان علاقوں کی جلد نشاندہی کی جا سکتی ہے جہاں پر پینے کے پانی میں سنکھیا خطرناک شرح تک موجود ہے۔ اس سے ہم ان علاقوں میں جہاں پینے کے پانی میں سنکھیا بڑی مقدار میں موجود ہے، نہ صرف نشاندہی کر سکتے ہیں بلکہ ہنگامی بنیادوں پر وہاں کام کرکے وقت اور پیسہ بھی بچایا جا سکتا ہے۔‘یونیورسٹی آف ڈیلاوئیر سے تعلق رکھنے والی ہولی مائیکل کے بقول’ اس ماڈل کی مدد سے نہ صرف ان علاقوں کی نشاندہی ہوگی جہاں پانی میں سنکھیا موجود ہے بلکہ ماڈل میں موجود علاقے میں آبادی کے تناسب کا حساب کرکے یہ تعیّن بھی کیا جا سکتا ہے کہ وہاں کی آبادی کو زہر آلود پانی سے کون کونسے طبّی مسائل لاحق ہو سکتے ہیں۔‘
 آب زم زم کے نام پر زہر؟
گذشتہ دنوںبرطانیہ میں آب زم زم کے نام پر زہر آلود پانی فروخت کئے جانے کا انکشاف ہوا ہے۔ بی بی سی کی ایک رپورٹ کے مطابق مسلمانوں کیلئے مقدس تصور کیا جانے والا آب زم زم برطانیہ کی دکانوں میں فروخت ہو رہا ہے جبکہ اس میں ایسے خطرناک کیمیکل ہیں جو انسانی صحت کیلئے مضر ثابت ہو سکتے ہیں۔ رپورٹ میں کہا گیا ہے کہ سعودی عرب عمرہ یا حج کرنے کیلئے جانے والے لوگ تبرک کے طور پر یہ پانی اپنے ساتھ لا سکتے ہیں تاہم اسے تجارتی بنیادوں پر برطانیہ میں استعمال کیلئے نہیں لایا جا سکتا۔ بی بی سی کے ایک انڈر کور محقق نے ایسٹ اور ساو ¿تھ لندن اور لوٹن میں دکانوں پر آب زم زم کی بڑی تعداد میں بوتلیں دیکھی ہیں۔ ایسوسی ایشن آف پبلک اینالسٹس کے صدر ڈاکٹر ڈنکن کیمبل نے کہا ہے کہ وہ عوام کو ایسا پانی پینے کی تلقین نہیں کریں گے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ پانی زہر آلود ہے اور اس میں سنکھیا کی بڑی مقدار موجود ہے جو کینسر کا سبب بن سکتی ہے۔ بی بی سی نے عمرہ کیلئے جانے والے لوگوں سے کہا ہے کہ وہ آب زم زم سے خود پانی کو لا کر اس کا موازنہ دکانوں میں غیر قانونی طور پر فروخت ہونے والے پانی سے کریں۔ ادھر انوائرمنٹ ہیلتھ آفیسر ڈاکٹر یونس رمضان کے بقول’ آب زم زم کا معاملہ انتہائی حساس ہے، لوگ اس کو مقدس پانی تصور کرتے ہیںجبکہ لوگ یہ سوچ نہیں سکتے کہ یہ پانی زہر آلود ہوگا تاہم سعودی عرب اور برطانیہ کے حکام کو ایسے پانی کے خلاف ایکشن لینا چاہئے۔

About 140 million people around the world drink water contaminated with unsafe-levels of arsenic.According to reports, August 22, 2013, the element is found naturally in rocks and soil, but exposure to it presents a major public health problem, especially in regions where untreated groundwater is the only reliable source of drinking water.Scientists have deployed a new statistical tool that can help predict the greatest risk of contamination.
Luis Rodriguez-Lado led the team that designed the method. The soil scientist from University of Santiago de Compostela says the model was tested in China, where in 1994 the Chinese government declared arsenic poisoning an endemic disease.
Officials responded with an initiative to test all wells in the country. Rodriguez-Lado says the effort is so massive that it could take decades to complete. He says his model can help speed that up, while it complements traditional testing methods.
Holy drinking water contaminated with arsenic is being sold illegally to Muslims by UK shops, "Zam Zam" water is taken from a well in Mecca and is considered sacred to Muslims, but samples from the source suggested it held dangerous chemicals.
Tourists can bring back small amounts from Saudi Arabia, but it cannot be exported for commercial use. An undercover researcher found large quantities of bottles being sold in east and south London, and in Luton.The president of the Association of Public Analysts said he would "certainly would not recommend" drinking it.
'Poisonous' drink ,
A BBC investigation discovered "Zam Zam" water was being sold by Muslim bookshops in Wandsworth, south-west London, and Upton Park, east London, as well as in Luton, Bedfordshire.according to reports, 5 May 2011, "The water is poisonous, particularly because of the high levels of arsenic, which is a carcinogen," said Dr Duncan Campbell, president of the Association of Public Analysts."The limits set in drinking water are set there for very good reason."Once the water gets above that limit, it's not safe."
Secret recordings captured the vendors describing customers who drank it daily.
"They depend on it, they don't drink anything else," said the owner of an Islamic bookshop in Upton Park.
Last year the Food Standards Agency said people "should consider avoiding" the drink in the UK, which it said came from dubious sources.
'Sensitive matter'
The BBC asked a pilgrim to take samples from taps which were linked to the Zam Zam well and to buy bottles on sale in Mecca, to compare the water on sale illegally with the genuine source.
These showed high levels of nitrate and potentially harmful bacteria, and traces of arsenic at three times the permitted maximum level, just like the illegal water which was purchased in the UK.
Dr Yunus Ramadan Teinaz, an environmental health officer who has previously warned about "Zam Zam" water, said it was "a sensitive matter".
"People see this water as a holy water," he added.
"They find it difficult to accept that it is contaminated but the authorities in Saudi Arabia or in the UK must take action," he said.
None of the three shops involved would say why they were selling the water or how they obtained it, but further investigation suggested it had now been removed from their shelves. The Saudi embassy in London declined to comment on the issue of contamination at the source in Mecca.
